  • Pre-collision systems. By far the most useful in terms of safety, these systems are in place to prevent accidents from happening. They have tremendous awareness when it comes to the presence and position of other vehicles around the driver's car thanks to the use of sensors. The forward collision warning, for example, is capable of detecting the car in front, as well as accurately establishing its speed and distance. Should the car brake suddenly, the system is not only capable of alerting the driver, but it also begins to take the necessary steps in order to prevent a collision by activating the brakes. The time between the sensors detecting the possible collision and the brakes being used simply cannot be matched by human reaction time.
  • Adaptive cruise control. This is a system which works great in combination with pre-collision technologies. Like regular cruise control, this feature allows the driver to set a maximum speed which the car will not exceed, but this new system also detects the speed of the car in front and matches it.
  • Parking assistance systems. While not as essential to safety as other innovations, many people struggle with parking and these systems are capable of executing the maneuver almost entirely by themselves. All of these advanced features combined lead to a more autonomous car, one which one day could potentially lead to a completely self-driving vehicle.
